Anti-Corruption NGO Transparency International Ireland has written to Minister Michael McGrath sharing its views on a new Bill to reform Irelandโ€™s whistleblowing protection framework. The new Bill – the Protected Disclosures Amendment Bill 2022 – aims to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing into Irish national law.

The letter states that TI Ireland view that is likely that some measures, if passed, could weaken existing protections for Irish whistleblowers.

They argue this would put Ireland in breach of Article 25 (2) of the Directive which states that transposition of the Directive โ€˜shall under no circumstances constitute grounds for a reduction in the level of protection already afforded by Member States in the areas covered by this Directiveโ€™.

The letter can be read here.
