A new whistleblower protection Bill has now been published in Ireland. The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform issued the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Bill 2022 which seeks to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing into Irish national law by amending the current Protected Disclosure Act 2014.
The deadline for all 27 Member States to fully transpose the Directive was 17 December 2021. The EU Commission has begun infringement proceedings against the majority of Member States who have not yet properly implemented the requirements, including Ireland.
