The recently adopted whistleblower protection law in the Czech Republic faces a significant test in the latest in a series of high-profile whistleblowing cases covered by the media, including at the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Transport.

In an article on Seznam Zprรกvy it is reported that the director of the Ministry of Justice’s insolvency department, has filed an anti-corruption complaint against the Deputy Minister.

The case reportedly concerns an alleged power struggle within the Ministry, particularly involving a lucrative billion-dollar insolvency business, which could call into question perceptions of the integrity of the ministry.

The whistleblower protection law, once hailed as a crucial tool against corruption by the Minister of Justice himself, now undergoes scrutiny as it is employed by one of his departmentโ€™s own officials.

This latest case highlights the challenges associated with investigating high-ranking officials within the justice system and serves as a test for the efficacy of the newly implemented legislation, which was adopted to transpose the EU Directive on whistleblowing into national law.
