The European Court of Justice (CJEU) has ordered the Czech Republic to pay 2.3 million euros for failing to transpose the EU Directive on whistleblowing into its national legal system in a timely manner.

The EU Commission initiated legal proceedings against the Czech Republic and several other member states for failing to communicate its transposition progress in early 2023, which the law had not yet entered into force. The ruling announced today also penalised Luxembourg, Estonia and Hungary for similar breaches. Germany was also fined the largest amount of 36.7 million euros.
