France’s new whistleblower protection law –  Proposition de loi visant à améliorer la protection des lanceurs d’alerte  – entered into force on 1 September 2022.

The new legislation reforms the existing law known as “Sapin II” and goes beyond the minimum standards required by the new EU Directive on whistleblowing which all 27 member states were required to transpose.

It has been 9 months since the 17 December 2021 deadline for the Directive to fully transpose the EU Directive. The majority of countries are delayed in the process and the Commission has begun infringement proceedings.
