French parliamentarians have today agreed the text of a new whistleblowing law which is expected to be adopted in the next few weeks. The new legislation attempts to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing into the national French legal system.
The Bill, presented to Parliament by MP Sylvain Wasserman and developed in line with whistleblower protection advocates and emerging consensus on international best practice principles for robust whistleblowing framework.
Senators and MEPs reached a compromise on the final text which has, much to the celebration of the civil society coalition campaigning for a progressive transposition, restores much of the original proposals provisions which go above and beyond the minimum requirements of the Directive which includes financial support for legal support and extends protection to trade unions as whistleblower facilitators.
A coalition of 36 civil society organisations including unions and the ‘House of whistleblowers’ – Maison Lanceurs d’Alerte’ have welcomed the development in a Press Release.
