EU refers Estonia to Court for failing to transpose EU Directive on Whistleblowing

The EU Commission has referred Estonia and Poland to the European Court of Justice for failing to notify it of any measures to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing. The referral, made on the15 February 2024, is the latest in infringement proceedings taken by the EU Commission against Member States regarding this (Directive 2019/1937.) 

The official deadline for fully implementing the Directive was 17 December 2021 and Member States had 2 years to complete the process since it was adopted in 2019.  

The Commission stated that Estonia and Poland had not notified of any measures transposing the Directive and so progressed with the referral on 15 February 2024.
