Draft legislation to transpose the EU Directive on whistleblowing is currently being considered in Belgium. The proposal, understood to contain two separate Bills to cover public and private sector was circulated in December but not made publicly available despite NGOs calling for EU Governments to engage in an inclusive and transparent transposition process and there is discussion on Belgium’s anticipated approach online.
Belgium has now missed the official two-year deadline of 17 December 2021. The precise progress of the proposals is currently unclear with further information expected in February and a law in Summer 2022.
