The Italian Parliament has now approved a new delegation law to enable the government to restart the transposition of several EU Laws (14 Directives and 21 Regulations), including EU Directive 2019/1937 on the protection of whistleblowers.
The previous delegation law, which needed to provide the Government with the mandate to transpose the Directive, was adopted in April 2021 but expired later in the year before a draft Bill was issued.
The new mandate provides the Government three months, from 10 September 2022, to draft a transposition bill and include the transposition of 14 Directives and the ratification of 21 EU Regulations.
The mandate will extend to the Government elected at the upcoming general election. Italy is delayed in the transposition of EU Directive 2019/1937 which was required to be transposed fully before 17 December 2022.
