Source: Hinweisgeberschutzgesetz: VW-Manager fordern 7,5 Millionen Euro Schadenersatz vom Autobauer
Two whistleblowers are reportedly seeking multi-million euro damages from carmaker Volkswagen in Austria.
The Volkswagen managers are claiming 7.5 million euros in the Braunschweig Labor Court, claiming they felt pressured and disadvantaged by the company after they reported internally about alleged wrongdoing concerning emissions.
According to media reports, the concerns raised by the whistleblowers regard harmful pollutants in the interiors of Volkswagen models, and they also claim to have uncovered gaps in the documentation of the materials used in the VW vehicles.
The plaintiffs are seeking to invoke the Whistleblower Protection Act, which was adopted in 2023 to transpose the 2019 EU Directive on Whistleblowing into Austrian national law.
The whistleblowers reportedly want to have the alleged violations reported to various authorities, and a future court date was targeted for June 2025.
