Transposition of the EU Directive on Whistleblowing is receiving interest in the media in Luxembourg.

A recent article in Delano news reported on the newly issued Bill and the approach of the Luxembourgish government to implementation.

The official deadline for transposition was the 17 December 2021, which Luxembourg along with many other Member States failed to meet.

Whistleblower protection reform in the country are significant considering the political appetite for an EU Law on whistleblowing protection came in the context of the LuxLeaks scandal. The article states:

โ€œThe justice minister would not comment on how the new laws would have benefitted Antoine Deltour, the whistleblower behind the LuxLeaks revelations who found himself in court for lifting the lid on hundreds of tax deals signed between the government and companies settled in the grand duchy.

Deltour was initially given a 12-month suspended sentence in 2016, which was finally overturned in 2018. The Court of Cassation affirmed Deltourโ€™s whistleblower status, after this had been recognised by the European Court of Human Rights.โ€
