Germany may face a fine of at least โฌ17,248,000 EUR for late transposition of the EU Directive on whistleblowing.
The state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice responsible has stated in a letter to a member of the Bundestag that the European Court of Justiceโs lawsuit demands 61,600 euros for each day since the transposition deadline expired and “at least 17,248,000 euros.”
If Germany does not comply with the obligation by the end of the ECJ proceedings, Brussels has applied for the imposition of a precautionary penalty payment. This amounts to โฌ240,240 EUR per day, since the date of the announcement.
