The Federal Institute for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights and the Ombudsman of Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation have joined the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA) as part of its latest expansion in April 2024. NEIWA serves as a platform for authorities across Europe to share expertise on whistleblower protections. The participation of these regional Belgian bodies allows them to collaborate with other European authorities on the development and improvement of whistleblower reporting mechanisms.
This move coincides with Belgiumโs efforts to fully implement the EU Whistleblowing Directive (2019/1937) at both national and regional levels. By joining NEIWA, the Ombudsman of Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation are positioned to engage in ongoing discussions aimed at enhancing whistleblower protections and ensuring alignment with European standards.
