Transposition of the EU Directive on Whistleblowing continues in the Netherlands with a Bill being submitted to the House of Representatives on 1 June 2021 and a procedural meeting of the Home Affairs Committee on 17 June 2021.
Civil society have criticised the Bill’s needless complexity and inaccessibility.
The Bill adds a second definition of a breach of Union law to the first narrow definition of wrongdoing under national law to set the scope of what types of breaches reported would be protected – a separate reporting channel with additional requirements for the reporting of breaches of Union law is proposed.
