A new draft law on whistleblowing covering the private sector has been approved by the Belgian Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Consumer Protection and Digital Agenda.
The new draft law (2912/001) has been drafted to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing (EU Directive 2019/1937).
The law proceeds to the Parliamentary Assembly where it requires further approval before adoption. Separate legislation for the transposition of the EU Directive will follow to cover the public sector.
Belgium has delayed transposing the Directive into the national legal system. The Directive should have been fully implemented by all 27 EU Member states by 17 December 2022.
