A new draft law on whistleblowing has been issued in Austria. After much delay, the Austrian legislator has published a draft proposal to transpose the EU Directive on whistleblowing (2019/1937). Only 9 countries to date have passed new legislation.

Civil society are analysing the Governments approach to the mandatory reforms.  EU Member States had a number of choices to make in setting the scope of the protections. The EU Directive requires all 27 EU countries to implement new laws which set a common minimum standard, with some member States opting for more comprehensive progressive reforms and others taking a minimal approach. The deadline for comments on the Bill is the 15 July 2022.
