The European Court of Justice (CJEU) has ordered Hungary to pay 1.7 million euros for failing to transpose the EU Directive on whistleblowing into its national legal system in a timely manner.
The EU Commission initiated legal proceedings against Hungary and several other member states for failing to communicate its transposition progress in early 2023. The ruling announced today also penalised the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Estonia and Germany, which received the largest fine of 36.7 million euros.
