The Government of Slovakia has approved a draft law to transpose the EU Directive on Whistleblowing into national law.
The proposal would reform Slovakiaโs whistleblower protection framework; including:
- Protect reports of breaches of EU law and โanti-socialโ activities (in legally-defined cases.)
- Extend protection to anonymous whistleblowers who are later identified.
- Introduce sanctions for whistleblower retaliation from 2000 to 6000 euros and repeated offences up to 12,000 euros. Employer organisations could face up to 100,000 euro fines for breaching certain obligations under the law.
The proposed legislation would come into force on 01 January 2023, with some provisions delayed effect to 31 June 2023.
