NGO Atlatszo has published an analysis highlighting the lack of progress on the transposition of the EU Directive on Whistleblowing in Hungary. A recent progress report โAre EU Governments taking whistleblower protection seriously?โ from Transparency International and the Whistleblowing International Network looked at the legislative developments across 27 EU Member States as well as transparency and inclusiveness of the process. It has found that 14 months into the two-year time frame to transpose the Directive, Hungary has made little no known progress or at least no information has been made publicly available.
Hungary has had whistleblowing protection legislation since 2013. Civil society is monitoring the Governments approach to implementing the EU Directive. Transparency International has published comments on the current framework which needs to be reformed to meet the minimum standards of the Directive.
